The original web page is no longer available, but this is a link to a mirror site in Russia. Lebedev Physics Institute (Russia) The site is run by Senior Researcher Dr. Igor Shishkovsky. In addition to describing the technical work being done there, he has devoted a page to additive fabrication links in Russia, including service bureaus, manufacturer's reps, etc. The material is not otherwise easy to find, or even see, in most web browsers. MakePartsFast.com Print publication Digital Manufacturing Review is bundled together with Design World on a quarterly basis. The associated web-site MakePartsFast.com provides news coverage and also has extensive job listings. Protorapid (Spain) Portal for RP and CAD related subjects in the Spanish speaking world. Rapid Prototyping Home Page One of the earliest listings of university and government programs, service bureaus and all things RP. Maintained by Andrei Novacs, formerly at the University of Utah. Rapid Prototyping Systems Available in Japan This is a list maintained by the Japanese Association of the Rapid Prototyping Industry.  Reverse Engineering Link Pages3D Scanner Entry from the Wikipedia A good overview of the field and also a substantial link directory.Geomagic RE software manufacturer provides links to hardware manufacturers, and a scanner comparison table in pdf format. Free registration required. Jerry Isdale's RE Page Mr. Isdale wrote for the now-defunct VR News. NRC Visual Information Technology (VIT) Group (Canada) Sculptor.org Scanning & Imaging Directory Extensive and fairly up to date directory. Useful for technologists as well as artists. Simple 3D Wide selection of links to commercial and academic sites.
Open-source Systems, Maker-movement & Related Blogs and Videos
Each manufacturer of 3D printer kits maintains both blogs and discussion groups, as do the open source organizations. The RepRap organization also has a blog of blogs listing dozens of individuals with their own blogs that are making or using RepRap 3D printers. Here are links to the various home pages: 3DPrinters.net A blog started in July, 2011 by Mark Fleming to discuss the emerging market for home applications. 3ders.org Mainly has coverage of industry news releases and links to external articles concerning 3D printing. A nice timeline of the development of the field is one interesting feature.

Buildlog.Net Blog Mainly covers DIY laser cutters, CNC machining, 3D printers, design and related subjects. Fabbaloo An anonymous blog, - well, to the extent that Captain Fab may not be an actual name - illuminating one or another facet or development in 3D printing and mass customization. Generally amplifies one or two news articles per day. Homemade High Resolution 3D Printer - DIY This blog from Junior Veloso of Brazil describes how he built a photopolymer-based system using exposure from a used deformable mirror device (DMD) projector. The results appear to be fairly close to commercial versions of the machinery available from Envisiontec GmbH and others, while involving only an expenditure of US$2,800. Be forewarned, however, the method is covered by many US and other patents so this project would be illegal in the US. Prototype Today Limited directory resources and original content, but has good news release coverage and articles gathered from the web. Replicator Blog Joseph Flaherty writes from time to time on mass customization and related issues. VoxelFab Blog Started July, 2010 by Joris Peels, formerly of Shapeways, so far it seems to speculate on the future of 3D printing.
Mailing Lists, Discussion Groups and CollaborationsRapid Prototyping Mailing List (RPML) Archives Maintained at Helsinki University of Technology. Lively RP community discussion of all aspects of RP. Anyone can join in the discussion, or simply lurk. Go to the RPML's main page for complete directions on how to use the list and subscribe.
DIY 3D Printing and Fabrication A Yahoo special interest group exploring a variety of technologies which may be used in home-based efforts. The emphasis is on powder-based technologies such as 3DP, and photopolymer-based technologies that use exposure by DMDs and other non-laser sources. While there is much re-inventing the wheel, some members have achieved impressive results. Heliakon Solar Sintering Lab This is Jim Mallos' site dedicated to speculations and discussions concerning the use of sunlight as an energy source for selective sintering. Jet-Set Objet Users Forum Covers all topics for Objet Geometries Ltd.'s machine users and for those who are considering the technology. Includes topics on operating tips, materials, use in particular applications, etc. Open Manufacturing A discussion group dedicated to bringing open source software development methodology and philosophy to the design and construction of the physical world. In many cases this involves additive fabrication, especially as it relates to RepRap and the like, but be prepared for a heavy emphasis on philosophy. OpenRP A non-profit initiative spearheaded by Floating Point Solutions which aims at offering the RP industry an alternative mode of data exchange while maintaining compatibility with the industry standard STL file format. The idea is to provide a file format with expandable properties and backward compatibility. The company is encouraging discussion and debate on the subject. OpenRP offers free software to read and write RP files.
